Escritura y Produccion de Conocimiento en las Carreras de Posgrado
Edited by Elvira Narvaja de Arnoux
This edited collection, directed by Elvira Narvaja de Arnoux, reflects the sustained work of Latin American writing scholars on the topic of post-graduate writing. The authors that this volume brings together are all regional referents and members of the Cátedra UNESCO for reading and writing in Argentina and Mexico. They write from their capacities as thesis directors, coordinators of seminars and thesis workshops in careers that cover a wide spectrum, including reading and writing, educational psychology, public health, arts administration, art criticism, physics, professional development, and discourse analysis, among others. From these vantage-points, they develop and report on their lines of research into writing in the disciplines at the graduate level and in careers.
The chapters of the book are written from a diversity of theoretical and methodological approaches, and they advance practical lessons and innovative findings that illuminate pedagogical work at the post-graduate level. Thus, some chapters focus on the sociocultural aspects of the writing process, while others offer an analysis of the linguistic and discursive features of specific disciplinary genres within these highly specialized educational contexts. This work, originally published in 2009, is still a timely contribution to the study of writing in advanced higher education, and speaks to the pioneer spirit of Elvira N. de Arnoux, who coordinated this volume at a time when post-graduate writing was seldomly mentioned in writing scholarship both in the region and beyond.
Elvira Narvaja de Arnoux is Emeritus Professor at Universidad de Buenos Aires, chair of the Master’s in Discourse Analysis at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, and director of the Argentinian branch of the UNESCO Chair in Reading and Writing. She has given numerous conferences and seminars on glotopolitics, discourse analysis, and writing pedagogy. Her most recent publications include: La crisis política en la Argentina: memoria discursiva y componente emocional en el debate sobre la Reforma Previsional (2019) and Lectura y Escritura para aprender, crecer y transformar: 25 años de la Cátedra UNESCO, with María Cristina Martínez and Adriana Bolívar (2020).
