Alfabetización Académica y Profesional en el Siglo XXI: Leer y Escribir desde las Disciplinas
Edited by Giovanni Parodi
Academic and Professional Literacy in the XXI Century compiles the work of more than 30 renowned authors on academic literacy from Latin America and Spain. The volume is organized in three sections: academic world, professional world, and academic and professional worlds in connection. The chapters are woven together by two fundamental beliefs about language and literacy education: first, that grammar is a central element in the teaching/learning processes of any language, and second, that writing and literacy research’s empirical contribution to pedagogy is the description of language use in different situations and in varied academic and professional contexts. Viewing language and literacy through this common lens, the chapters in this collection consider the use of study groups, teaching oral presentation genres, composing psychology field notes, and understanding contrasts between the academic and professional world, among other topics.
More than 10 years after its original publication, the book remains a relevant landmark in the Latin American writing studies field. It introduces the international audience to a group of key authors in this important region and illustrates the kind of empirical tradition that defines the Latin American tradition.
